A core component in our system is the shipment query interface. While shipment documents such as Bills of Lading, Freight Bills, or Advance Ship Notices can be large documents, we have designed the interface to take advantage of many 'web 2.0' technologies. These technologies will work with any Internet browser developed after 2001, such as Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer, Netscape 7.0 or newer, or any version of Firefox or Safari. The end result is a system that is at least 10 times faster than traditional HTML based systems and will not experience lag with slower bandwidth internet connections such as dial-up Internet and cellular connections.
To collect information about your shipments, we connect our computer systems to those of your carriers to receive status messages from them about your shipments. Most larger carriers are 'EDI' capable, meaning they are able to connect with their customers and third party providers to provide various types of information. In most situations, a number of feeds from your ERP system will also be helpful to fill in the data gaps which the carriers may not provide. For example, a copy of the bills of lading would provide all the details of a shipment needed to reconcile with the status messages which carriers provide.
